The Lost Treasure of Andre Ward.

As the numbers roll in for the Golovkin Lemieux PPV card, there has to be a sinking feeling in the stomach of Andre Ward. It is the same feeling the sluggard had in the Old Testament “that did not plow for reason of winter and then begged for a harvest.” After forgoing two years worth of exposure in an obscure world. Ward chose to make A-side demands of his polar opposite in Golovkin. Whose justifiable response was to simply pass and move forward.

However beautiful the sweet science may be, it is but a gem in the eye of the beholder. All praise be to Al Haymon and his PBC efforts, but professional boxing is far from mainstream. In order for a fighter to become monetarily successful, he must remain visible. It is a lesson Golovkin has learned and one Ward has yet to figure out.

The secret to Golovkin’s meteoric rise in fame lies in his work ethic. He carries himself with a quiet professionalism, wins decisively, and fights often. That’s it. To be honest, unless Ward decides to emulate this model of success. It is hard to see him anywhere, but undercards and free tv, on his own merit. Which is somewhat sad considering he is the best fighter in the world today at 168 lbs. and arguably could challenge at 175.

Unfortunately, regardless of what Andre Ward decides to do next. The fortune of Golovkin and Lemieux will be split between Big Bear Lake and Canada. However, given Ward’s age and partnership with Roc Nation. The fortune of tomorrow can be his. Ward is already a quiet professional that wins decisively. All he needs to do is just get off his ass and go to work.

Between gate and ppv buys the approximate value of the treasure split between Golovkin and Lemieux was 10 million dollars.
