PBC Toe2Toe Tuesday 1-20-16 Fight Report

Club Nokia in Los Angeles California played host to the second Premeir Boxing Champions card for 2016. Originally scheduled for a three fight broadcast, the propensity for early round knockouts made way for a four fight Toe2Toe Tuesday. Headlined by the main event featuring Welterweights Jamal “Shango” James and Javier “El Intocable” Molina, the Premier Boxing Champions are now in full swing for 2016.

Main Event

Jamal James vs. Javier Molina Welterweight

The reach of James proved to hold Molina at bay for the opening rounds. Molina would attempt to engage in close quarters but James would evade and fall back on his left jab. Though the shots landed by Molina were the more meaningful, James was still dictating the pace at the half way point. The question for James, was could he hold on to control-until the cards.

It was in the 7th, the power of James began to shine and the aggression of Molina would subside. A cut over the eye presented another difficulty for the frustrated Molina in the 8th. The final 2 rounds displayed more of the same. James in control with his reach and Molina swinging for the fences in last ditch effort. Final punch stats had James throwing 713 and landing 178 while Molina let go of 329 to land 68. Jamal James wins via ud10 with scores of 99-91, 98-92, 97-93 and improves to 19-0.

Undercard

David Benavidez vs. Kevin Cobbs Super Middleweight

The control of the the fight was always in the hands of Benavidez. It never left. Cobbs would look to retreat, but Benavidez would simply cut the ring and deliver another onslaught of hooks and jabs. The contest only lasted a minute into the 2nd round before referee Caiz Jr. was forced to save an out on his feet Cobbs. David Benavidez improves to 12-0 while a shell shocked Kevin Cobbs falls to 10-2.

Malcom McAllister vs. Tyrone Selders Super Middleweight

Selders would look to just survive as he faced mcallister and he did for 2 rounds. It was the 3rd that called his number for the night. Selders would show chin and occasionally mount a response to the offense of McCallister. Still whenever momentum seemed to be gained, another thundering shot from McCallister would land and stop progress. With a minute left in the 3rd repeat combinations peaking at 4 forced the needed stoppage. McAllister remains undefeated at 7-0.

Caleb Plant vs. Adsat Rodriguez

Plant delivered a beautiful performance for the Club Nokia crowd as he gave creedence to his nickname “Sweet Hands”. Plant would glide around the perimeter of the ring and land his punches at will. By the end of the 3rd, the futile effort of Rodriguez was statistical. He entered the 4th landing only 8% of his punches. A cut above the eye from an accidental headbutt suffered in the 1st could lend to reason for Rodriguez’s performance. Still even if hadn’t occured, it wouldn’t have mattered. Either way, Caleb Plant dominated the entire contest and secured the inevitable knockout in the 6th. Plant moves to 12-0 and Rodriguez falls to 11-5-2.
