Toe2Toe Tuesday PBC Santiago Ruiz by TMT Fight Report

The Premier Boxing Champions used Floyd Mayweather Jrs. stable for their Toe2Toe Tuesday broadcast on FS1. Set in Las Vegas seven miles off the strip, Sams Town Casino played venue while Shawn and Kenny Porter provided the color commentary. The three fight broadcast was capped by a bantamweight clash between Alexis Santiago and Erik Ruiz. Alexis Santiago would enter looking for #10 in a row, while Erik Ruiz (3 and 3 in his last 6) wanted to solve the enigma of his sliding career.

Main Event

Alexis Santiago vs Erik Ruiz Bantamweight 10rd.

The center of the ring was the stage for the opening rounds of the fight as both Santiago and Ruiz preferred the close exchange. Santiago would pull himself back in the 3rd  and begin to show the difference in skill inside the ring.Though Santiago was by no means flawless in his effort. He managed to pop Ruiz with a whip like left jab and control the fight from the outside.  The phone booth exchanges continued, but it was at the will of Santiago. Ruiz would stand with Santiago and excite the crowd with his determination to last by trading blows all night. However, the outside game of Santiago proved the difference as Alexis Santiago wins via unanimous decision and improves to 21-3-1.

Undercard

Lionell Thompson vs. Paul Parker Light Heavyweight 8rd.

Close through the 2nd both Parker and Thompson seemed to have an effective gameplan. Parker would use his long left jab to establish distance and Thompson would stay just out of reach. Thompson attempted to steal points on the inside but an approach that had him just on the canvas in the 3rd stalled his momentum. The suggested pressure by Thompsons corner for the 5th was correct as he finally managed to steal a round. However, with only 8 rounds to play, the task for Thompson on points proved insurmountable. He would make it close by outworking Parker until the final bell. But in the end, it was the slight knockdown in the 3rd that ultimately decided the fight. Paul Parker wins via split decision and escapes to 8-1.

Lanell Bellows vs. Antowyan Aikens Super Middleweight 8rd.

Trumping Bellows in height and reach, a simple game plan  would have been to use a jab and establish distance through the fight. Fortunately for Bellows, Aikens accomplished neither. Criticized only in his shot placement, Bellows continually worked his way inside and landed heavy rights on an at times lethargic Aikens. Reckless but effective throughout the fight. The encounter would only last 5 rounds as Lanell Bellows secured his 15th win via knockout.
